The Department of Basic Science and Humanities follows the curriculum meticulously with its associated activities to provide an inclusive education for B.Tech students. It helps them to be technically sound and professionally skilled personnel. This department is devoted to the spreading of knowledge from an interdisciplinary perspective and to empower the students the blend of Engineering and Management.
It is a real privilege to be head of the Basic Science and Humanities department with highly motivated and dedicated staffs. I further advice to prospective engineers to put in their best to make their dreams fulfil.

The Basic Science and Humanities department (BSH) of Sophitorium Engineering College contains different subject namely Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Economics and English. It also imparts training programme in communication skills, soft skills, organisational behaviour, and personal development. Basic Science and Humanities department believes in a holistic approach the newly admitted students.
The department has its own Physics, Chemistry and English lab for its students and encourage them to participate in national and international level competitions. It provides scientific lab for Physics, Chemistry and language lab for English. The department organise different training programmes for the students to acquire English knowledge and makes enormous effort to increase their English proficiency skills and improvement in grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation skills to cope up with the competitive job market. The department also delivers the mathematics classes to students. It includes calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, complex analysis, probability distribution, numerical methods, discrete mathematics etc.
The department of Basic Science and Humanities have experienced and qualified faculties. They have been putting their steady efforts to improve the students learning, research and development processes. Apart from teaching and learning, students’ personality, communication and soft skills are the high priority task for the department. We involve in best teaching methodologies and try to solve many perplexed problems which pave a way to become a successful engineer.
The main vision of this department is to groom the students with intellectual knowledge and also make them professionally skilled and to inculcate Social, Ethical and moral values among the students. The faculty members of Basic Science and humanities department have always tried to provide the best in terms of teaching, knowledge and skill enhancement. So that students will be equipped with the basic knowledge of science and engineering skills. BSH of SEC is dedicated to uplift the student’s career prospects and giving motivation to their creativity. We are determined to prepare students to take part in global job market.

The Basic Science and Humanities has its own well equipped with modern software set up to meet the needs of the students. It helps the students to learn beyond the syllabus and grab complete knowledge of the subject.

This is the basic science lab is well-equipped and it is common for all branches of first year. It has all the facilities for a group of 40 students to carry out their experiments individually. The lab enables students to understand the fundamentals of Engineering Physics.
Major Equipment in Engineering Physics Lab are :-
Newton’s Ring Apparatus, Differection Grating Polarimeter, E/M Thomsons's Apparatus, Resolving Power Apparatus, Carey Foster’s Bridge, Sonometer, P-N Junction Diode, Plancks Constant Apparatus, Cauchy Constant Apparatus, Cathode Ray Osscilator, De-Sauty Bridge, Ionisation Potential Apparatus, Solar Cell Apparatus, B-H Curve Apparatus etc.
The Chemistry Lab is well equipped and well functional.. The lab is intended to impart teaching in Chemistry in a neatly designed, spacious and well-ventilated laboratory with a capacity to accommodate 40 students. The lab is beautifully designed with separate balance room and chemical store room. It provides students with a practical approach towards the various techniques used in engineering application. Practical awareness is instructed and students are trained both quantitatively and qualitatively during the lab sessions so that their understanding and problem solving abilities can be enhanced.
Major Equipment in Engineering Chemistry Lab are :
-UV-Spectrophotometer, Digital Conductivity Meters, Flame Photometer, Redwood Viscometers, Pensky Marten’s Flash & Fire Point Apparatus, Electrical Balance, Distillation Unit, Digital pH Meters etc.
The digital English Language Lab in BHS is intended to develop English language proficiency among the schools and colleges students. Comprising of the most comprehensive and interactive digital multimedia content, it uses Blended Learning methodology for both the teacher as well as the student. It covers the entire aspect of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing (LSRW) in English language.
